Different perspectives, different outcomes

Hi,

 

Yesterday I watched a dvd.  The film was ‘From Hell’ starring Johnny Depp, Robbie Coltrane and Heather Graham.  It was about Jack the Ripper, with an 18 rating for violence and gore.

 

Following up on the previous post about perspective, I was watching the movie [set in 1888] for two reasons:

  • Historical references in terms of clothes and carriages [to do an illustration which is a hobby of mine].
  • How the film addressed the psychology of the case – the interplay of the lead characters.

 

You’ll probably have seen the widely distributed web video asking you to focus on one thing [passes of a basketball between players wearing white tops], and you miss seeing a gorilla walk across screen.  Your point of perception defines (more…)

The value of looking sideways at life

Hi, just a short post on a situation that brought to mind both the value of new perspectives, and a big smile.

Yes, there is Edward de Bono’s well-known ‘lateral thinking’: “methods of thinking concerned with changing concepts and perception” [quote from Wikipedia on lateral thinking].  The techniques and ideas of which are usefully applied in problem solving.

In NLP, there’s a similar concept: ‘re-framing’.
